Fire sprinklers
Residential fire sprinklers for Outer Banks homes.
Platinum Plumbing and Fire Sprinklers, Inc. does residential fire sprinkler work from the Kitty Hawk shop, along with service and repair, new construction, remodels, and commercial plumbing. The figures below are from the National Fire Protection Association. They describe how sprinklers change a home fire. They are not a prediction for any one house.
What NFPA reports
NFPA’s U.S. Experience with Sprinklers, covering 2020–2024, compares home fires where sprinklers were present with home fires that had no automatic extinguishing system. In that comparison, the civilian death rate was about 90% lower when sprinklers were present. Property loss was about 58% lower.
In home fires large enough for the sprinklers to operate, the sprinklers operated in about 93% of fires. When they did operate, they controlled the fire in about 98% of those operations. In many of those fires, one sprinkler was enough.
Those are national research findings. A system still has to be designed and installed for the house in front of us.
A side-by-side burn, on video
The Orange County Fire Authority recorded a residential fire sprinkler demonstration at Marble Mountain. Two similar rooms are set alight. One room has sprinklers. The video is on YouTube. This site does not host the file.
